La Madeleine
La Madeleine Place de la Madeleine - 75008 Paris (246 m)
The church of the Madeleine stand on an exceptional site : it dominates the Faubourg Saint-Honore and the "Grands Boulevards" and gave its name to this district of Paris.
Royal foundation, it was one of the elements of the project of extension of the city towards the west in the middle of the XVIII century and was designed to fix the perspective between the two palates of Gabriel on the Place de la Concorde.
Its contruction posed many problems and was stretched on more than eighty years.
Place de la Concorde
Place de la Concorde 75008 Paris (688 m)
Built by Gabriel, architect to Louis XV, between 1755 and 1775, it is octagonal in shape.
With its Egyptian obelisk - presented to Charles X by the Viceroy of Egypt - in the centre, its statues and its majestic dimensions, Place de la Concorde is one of the most beautiful squares in Paris.
