Tucked neatly away between Lyon and Geneva, the Ain department in the Rhône-Alpes region sits in the heart of a vast transport network: the area is served by two nearby airports (Lyon St Exupéry and Geneva-Cointrin) and the high-speed TGV Trains (Paris is less than two hours away by TGV from Bourg-en-Bresse, the main town in the department) but also by a network of motorways (A6, A39, A40, A42 and A46).

The Ain remains, however, a unique, protected natural environment, with 198,400 hectares of forests, 3,060 km of rivers, over 1,000 ponds in the Dombes area, 268,361 hectares of agricultural land and the highest peaks in the Jura Mountains.

If you're coming from the north or east of France, or from Paris, take the A6 to Mâcon and then the A40 in the direction of Geneva. Exit at "Replonges/Mâcon Est" (12 km from Vonnas). Then simply follow the signs to Vonnas.

By Car :

If you are coming from Geneva, Switzerland, or Italy via the Mont-Blanc tunnel take the A40 in the direction of Mâcon-Paris and exit at "Saint-Genis/Vonnas", 5 km from Vonnas.
If you are coming from the south of France or Lyon:
1st possibility: cross Lyon on the western side of the city (Fourvière tunnel) and then take the A6 motorway in the direction of Paris, exit at Villefranche sur Saône (35 km from Vonnas) or Belleville sur Saône (28 km from Vonnas) and head in the direction of Châtillon.

2nd possibility (if traffic is slow before Lyon): bypass Lyon on the eastern side of the city ("Boulevard périphérique"), take the A42 motorway in the direction of Geneva and then head for "Villefranche-Paris" on the A46 motorway. Exit at "Les Echets - Bourg par RN83" and go through Villars-les-Dombes and Neuville-les-Dames to reach Vonnas.
