63410 CHARBONNIÈRES-LES-VIEILLES
The gour of Tazenat is a lake of volcanic origin that marks the northern limit of the Chaine des Puys. It is located in the town of Charbonnières-les-Old (Manzat Township), in the French department of Puy de Dome. Geologically, it is a maar.
The lake has a depth recorded in technical diving (Trimix), 68 meters. Its banks, except in the north and northeast are wooded and have a height of 50 meters. They form a growing volcano (north, east and south) consists of projections volcanic (basalt and granite blocks torn from the basement). The crater of the volcano should be 66 meters deep and 700 meters in diameter on average. It was formed 30,000 years ago.
On its northern slopes, there is a thickness of several meters of volcanic products (slag and pozzolans) which are mixed pieces of granite bedrock torn during the eruption.
A 2.8 km trail, sometimes flat, sometimes quite steep, lets go around.
