04360 MOUSTIERS-SAINTE-MARIE
The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption originated in a monastery founded in the fifth century century by monks of the abbey of Lerins, called by the Bishop of Laugh.
Driven by the Saracens, the monks did not come until the eleventh or twelfth century.
The church was built in the twelfth century in Romanesque style.
In 1336, the prior Pierre Prats began rebuilding the church in Gothic style, but only the choir was rebuilt, which is why it is not in the axis of the nave.
