The castle Morimont allegedly built before 1183, is documented in 1271 when the Earl of Ferrette actually offering to the Bishop of Basel.
It was destroyed by the earthquake of 1356 and it is the Morimont, Ferrette vassals who then sold it to reconstruct the counts of Ortenbourg Salamanca in 1582.
It is occupied by the Swedes in 1632 and destroyed by the French in 1637.
In 1641 King Louis XIV gave it to Vignacourt family who kept it until the Revolution.
In July 1826, the castle of Morimont into the history of the Swiss Jura.
Xavier Stockmar, and Olivier Louis Quiquerez Seuret met there and they vowed to "deliver the Bernese Jura of the oligarchy."
This act was the beginning of the fight in 1979 that led to the creation of the Republic and Canton of Jura, the Swiss canton 23rd.
The castle served as a career until 1864.
Restoration work is underway.
It is subject to a classification as historical monuments since October 1841.
