Abbaye de Cadouin

Listed building, it was founded in 1115 in a narrow valley south of the Dordogne. From 1119, she became part of Citeaux (Burgundian monastery was founded in 1098. Saint Bernard, who was professed in 1113, it inaugurated the Cistercian reform known). Cadouin quickly became the most prestigious Abbey Perigord. His reputation was largely built around a piece of fabric that has long been considered the Holy Shroud. An important pilgrimage has developed around this relic which enriched the abbey.

The Romanesque church was consecrated in 1154. It releases the twelfth-century Cistercian spirituality. The cloister, built in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, is a masterpiece of Gothic art.

Cadouin Abbey is on the World Heritage List by UNESCO under the Santiago pilgrimage in France.
