The Tour Saint-Nicolas - right - (fourteenth century), with the tower of the Chain - left - and the tower of the Lantern, one of the three towers from the waterfront of La Rochelle, and a emblematic of the two towers of the Old Port, it is the majestic entrance. She assured for six centuries defending the pass and has served as a point of attachment to the chain stretched from the other side, and used to prohibit access to the port. It was a historic monument in 1879.
