The port of Calais, located along the busiest strait in the world by international shipping in 2006 confirmed its status as the first port in continental Europe for roll-on/roll-off cargo, the first European port connection with England, the fourth port French goods and the first French port for passenger traffic.

It includes
• The old and Inner Harbour, with;
- The deep-water wharf "Paul DEVOT" bordering a stain dredged to -10.00 m, of 240 meters, accommodating up to 9 meters of cargo draft and 190 m long;
- The "pool of skippers" that communicates with the Carnot basin and the channel from Calais to Saint-Omer (VNF) linking the port to regional waterways and European
- The basin "Carnot" (over 13 ha, closed by the lock Carnot);
- The marina.
• The "new port", around the basin President Henri Ravisse (1.2 km x 0.2 km), which can accommodate large ships in deep water. It is a tidal port, maintained by dredging at the coast (-9m, compared to zero of the chart), with a deep water quay north (served by railways, with a beam of triage).
