Historical monument, the Palace of the Island is often identified as the''old''prisons.
Old fortress, its function of prison is attested from 1325.
But in its history, it also hosted a Chamber of Accounts and a courthouse.
At the end of the nineteenth century, escaping the destruction, it changes status.

It is a historical monument in 1900.
