The museum is St. Croix, by the size and quality of its funds, the first museum of the Poitou-Charentes. Collections (Prehistory, Antiquity, Middle Ages, regional history, nineteenth century, twentieth century and contemporary art) are presented in a modern building designed by architect Jean Monge in 1971, built on the site of the Abbey St. Cross (XVIIes.)
