No town could be better suited than Senlis to preserving the memory of the North African cavalry which, since 1830, has occupied a place of distinction in the French army. The Spahis regiment has indeed garnisoned in Senlis for thirty years and the Museum formed in 1991 groups a number of souvenirs of its remarkable past. Exhibited on the groundfloor are trumpet oriflammes, military pennants, pieces of harness and « tougs » of Turkish origin. In the upper floors, uniforms (scarlet capes and jackets), personal souvenirs and a diversity of images recall a hundred years of cavalry life.
