Miraculously spared, the medieval castle is the oldest monument in Brest. Seventeen centuries now house the National Museum of the Navy. Repeatedly revised over time, the castle reveals a mixed fate to that of the sea, the story of a city, region and country as a whole. The museum traces the history of the Navy and attests to the close links between this history and the city of Brest.
