Lake Montriond was born of a landslide of part of the mountain of Nantaux northwest. This undated geological event with certainty (4500 years to 3 or 4 centuries!), Caused a dam on the stream flow at the bottom of this valley, where the formation of the lake. Subjected to very large variations in levels between spring and autumn, the lake was finally sealed in 1990 by gigantic work of the Municipality of Montriond.
Since, tourism is flourishing.
Fishing: regulated as in all the mountain lakes, it only opens the first Saturday in April, after the ice melted. There fishing for Arctic char, brown trout and rainbow skies and minnows.
Activities in summer, the lake functions as a true sports and recreation: canoeing, swimming supervised the 1er/07 to 31/08, fishing, pony rides, electric cars.
The Fire Lake: 2nd Saturday of each August, the municipality of Montriond organizes this body of water a sound and light show that draws thousands of visitors (free).
