The clock tower, called Big Clock, was originally a gate of the walled city, opened in the original enclosure. In the thirteenth century his name was the door of the Parrot or Perrot, because it gave access to the suburb of that name. The door was pierced by two bays, the largest for the smaller carts and pedestrians.
In 1478, it is topped by an octagonal bell tower, topped by a tower housing the bell of the clock.
In 1672, the two arrays are combined into a single arch, to facilitate traffic.
In 1746, the top of the building was demolished to make way for the current construction in the shape of Louis XV cartel flanked by scientific and military attributes.
Today it remains one of the main crossing points between the docks and the old town.
