Église Saint-Sauveur

The first church is built in 1157, along with the old Church of St. Bartholomew. A fire destroyed it in 1419. The reconstruction was completed in 1492. This church was built in Gothic style, it remains now only the tower and fragments of the portal. This magnificent building was demolished by the Protestants in 1568 to reinforce the walls of the city. The bell tower was retained for military purposes, to serve as a lookout tower or platform for cannon. The gate collapsed in 1573. From 1650 to 1669, was rebuilt St Saviour. She was carried away by the fire of 1705. She was again rebuilt in the eighteenth century. Transform still works (roof of the nave, forum). During the Revolution, she became store food in the Navy. Finally, it was reopened for worship in 1802.

The church of St-Sauveur has undergone major works since 1995. At that time a concert had to be canceled because the arches were threatening to collapse. For the record, the sexton, caretaker of the church, saw a stone fall to 2 m from him. Since then, only the bell tower and the organ have not undergone major restoration. One can note the following work. The reconstruction of the central arch, comfort vaults of the aisles with implementation taking steel and rehabilitation of flying buttresses. The establishment of a tight barrier device to prevent the ski saltwater. The repair of many of the pillars. Repair of interior and exterior coatings. The re-roofing. Some tables have been restored. The organ loft, decorations and stained glass windows have undergone a restoration. Finally, the work was followed by the rehabilitation of the forecourt entrance and facade, and eventually the sacristy.

The work took nearly 13 years, with a total investment of the city of nearly 3 million. The church was officially opened on 6 and 7 December 2008. Note that an association collects funds for the restoration of the organ. (SOL for the restoration of the organ of Saint Sauveur).

The church welcomes, in addition to various religious, some concerts during the summer periods.
