As an eagle's nest, for 1000 years Tournoël monitors the valleys and volcanoes of Auvergne. Built to withstand all the seats, he was attacked five times, taken twice a cunning, once resisted by force and the other two times. After each seat, the defenses were improved, modified access, built towers, traps developed. During the Renaissance, the castle was adorned with beautiful sculptures carved in stone of Volvic. It was inhabited by Alphonse de Poitiers, brother of Saint Louis and the Marshal of Saint Andrew.
Historical Monument in 1889, the castle is being restored.
